Some people spend their whole lives preparing the answer to this question: What albums are on your personal all-time Top 10 list?

These are all fairly obvious choices (except the last one), and they're in no particular order.

- The Rolling Stones, Beggars Banquet
- David Bowie, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
- The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
- Bob Dylan, Highway 61 Revisited
- Frank Sinatra, In the Wee Small Hours
- Miles Davis, Kind of Blue
- John Coltrane, A Love Supreme
- Gram Parsons, GP & Grievous Angel
- Johnny Cash, At Folsom Prison
- Jean Ritchie, Ballads from Her Appalacian Family Tradition

(Okay, it's cheating to list both by Gram, but I can't pick. They're both fabulous.)

It's the anniversary of the Russian Revolution, marking the Marxist overthrow of the Russian government. Karl Marx once wrote that "religion is the opium of the people." What is the new opium of the people?

The fall harvest is showing up in markets now, including many of the green vegetables children find so disgusting and yet are forced to eat. What is the most disgusting thing you’ve eaten, either by choice or against your will?

Most disgusting thing ever ingested? Orange-flavored metamucil or that chalky barium shake they make you drink to have an upper GI. Unsure which has a worse taste.

Actual food? Peas, beets, and the vinegar drenched rice/seaweed served with sushi are right up there. Didn't mind the raw fish; couldn't stand the rice/seaweed.

Talk about a recurring dream you've had, or talk about your most vivid dream. What makes it stick in your memory?

I used to have a recurring dream. In it Moira and I would be going down the road back home. Moira would be driving whatever car we owned at the time, and we were whatever age we were at the time. I was always holding a cat. We'd get to the gully just before the hill up to our house and we'd go off the road into the gully. Only we would never hit the bottom of the gully, we would just keep falling into darkness until I woke up.

I haven't had that dream in at least 10 years. But I also had it on and off for probably 10 or more years as a child and teen, so I think I'll always remember it. I expect it was a reaction to the several car accidents we had when I was young, or maybe just the bad one in 81. When I think about it, I haven't had that dream since I started driving ...

What are you most sensitive about?

The thing that can bother me the most is criticism questioning my ability, my knowledge, my judgement or my competence. Or me perceiving someone questioning/criticizing that. (Goddess, I really am my mother's daughter.) I'm usually easy-going, nothing much bothers me, I'm very solid. But there's one person who can push that button like nobody's buisness. They're very autocratic about it too, so that there's no conversation. It's 'this is the way it will be done' and I'm not included in the decision making process. Then, I'll be going over it in my head for days, going 'but that's not right' or 'that's not the way it was.' I'll just be constantly turning it over, going back to it, rolling it around in my head until I can break away from it.

What is the one thing you're most neurotic about?

View 500 Answers

I'm generally very laid-back person. Really, the only time I get neurotic or anxious about things is when I have a big project due for class and what seems like little time to accomplish it. Then it gets ugly and I stress out.

Now, if we're talking what am I most OCD about, then it would have to be my DVDs and CDs, since I insist on cataloging and keeping them in alphabetical order. Books to a lesser extent, since I do have them cataloged but I don't have enough bookshelves to truly keep them organized the way they should be. :)

Why do you think it is some people don't get along with you?

Actually, I generally get along with most everyone. I have what I call the 'happy retail face' from working in retail so long, that I can be pleasant as pie to just about anyone. I tend to try to stay neutral with regards to other people's drama, and attempt to see both sides of issues, so that I end up being regarded as someone to come to and hash things over with.

The people I don't get along with are small-minded bigots who think they know exactly what is best for everyone and want to completely control the way that everything is done. You know who these people are. They're the ones who come to your door and ask if you know Jesus, who try to stop you from getting medical care, who don't want you to marry the person you love because they happen to not be the opposite gender. People like that stupid preacher who was always in the quad at UofL and called Ashley a whore. I'm still surprised Saffie didn't turn him into bits of preacher. And people like that don't like me because I'm very socially liberal (kids, be free, be whoever you are, do whatever you want to do, just so long as you don't hurt nobody) and because I don't give a fig what they think.
